What is expressive writing?

Expressive writing is a form of writing that focuses on exploring thoughts, emotions, and experiences in a personal and meaningful way. It is often used as a tool for self-reflection, emotional processing, and healing. Unlike structured or analytical writing, expressive writing is more about free-flowing expression rather than grammar, punctuation, or style.

Research has shown that expressive writing can help reduce stress, improve mental well-being, and enhance self-awareness.

People engage in expressive writing through journals, letters (sometimes never sent), or even creative storytelling based on real experiences. The key is honesty and openness, allowing for a deeper connection with one’s emotions and thoughts.
